Title: Facilitating Return to Work- An Introduction to Orthotics and Prosthetic Care

OBJECTIVES

1. Recall common terms associated with orthotics and prosthetics
2. Identify common occupation-related injuries associated with orthotic
interventions
3. Describe patient evaluation with considerations of the patient’s workplace
demands, responsibilities and goals and incorporate into consideration of
device categories, orthotic management and design
4. Recall common terms specific to upper and lower extremity prostheses
5. Identify and describe levels of amputations of the upper and lower
extremities
6. Identify and describe K-levels associated with lower extremity amputee
mobility
7. Describe the design of upper and lower limb prostheses relative to the user’s
injury and goals
8. Discuss postoperative management and early rehabilitation following
amputation
9. Discuss the criticality of time to receipt of a prosthesis
10. Develop a treatment plan to incorporate orthotic and prosthetic device
management into patient’s ADL routine
11. Summarize the facilitation of a patient’s return to work
12. Describe current evidence that is helping to shape care for relevant patient
populations
